Successful day: Theiler and REMBE® rad-net Bundesliga overall winners – Rottmann takes stage victory in Romania
It was an extremely successful day for Team REMBE® rad-net, if not the most successful in the team's history: Ole Theiler and Team REMBE® rad-net celebrated overall victory in the German Cycling League, and Johannes Adamietz won the German mountain climbing championship title.
Jonathan Rottmann also won the fourth stage of the Turul Romaniei (UCI 2.2) in Romania.
For REMBE® rad-net, the final of the 2025 ‘Müller – Die lila Logistik Rad-Bundesliga’ as part of the Sauerland Mountain Prize in Wenholthausen was all about defending the overall lead and the German Mountain Championship – with success. The REMBE® rad-net riders once again dominated the race. Miguel Heidemann, wearing the mountain jersey, was in the breakaway group of the day and continued to collect points for the special classification, ultimately winning it by a clear margin.
Johannes Adamietz later joined this group and was able to break away in the final with U23 rider Max Bock (Groupama-FDJ Development Team). However, Adamietz was unable to keep up with Bock in the final metres and was instead joined by Silas Koech (U23/Lotto-Kern-Haus-PSD Bank), eventually finishing third on the day, which was enough to secure him the German mountain title in the elite class for the second time after 2022. "I'm super happy to have won the mountain title in the elite class again," said Adamietz.
Theiler crossed the finish line in fifth place. That was enough for him to defend his lead in the Bundesliga and win the most important national racing series ahead of his two REMBE® rad-net teammates Adamietz and Heidemann. Julian Borresch finished fifth overall. The Sauerland-based team also won the team classification. In addition to Heidemann's victory in the mountain classification, Adamietz won the sprint classification. REMBE® rad-net rider Pepe Albrecht gained a few more points in Wenholthausen in the battle for the young rider classification, but had to settle for second place.
"I am absolutely delighted to have won the overall Bundesliga classification for the first time. Having already secured several stage victories in the Bundesliga in the past, this was the last piece of the puzzle that I was missing in the Bundesliga," said Theiler after the race. He went on to explain: "When I started cycling, the Bundesliga was the biggest thing for me. Back then, I witnessed Jan Tschernoster [former rider for the REMBE® rad-net team, editor's note] win the Bundesliga. If I had told little Ole back then that he would also win the Bundesliga one day, he would have been very proud of himself."
Theiler wore the purple leader's jersey from the first race in Schweigen, which he won, until the end, never relinquishing it once. "It's really special to have been able to wear the jersey from the first to the last race and to have secured it in front of a home crowd. Without such a perfect team, that wouldn't have been possible," said Theiler.
After 212 kilometres from Buzaz to Slobozia, Rottmann was the fastest in the sprint of a group of around 30 riders, relegating the two Italians Thomas Capra (Bahrain-Victorious Development Team) and Samuel Quaranta (MBH Bank-Ballan-CSB) to second and third place. The 21-year-old almost missed the group, but thanks to his teammates, he was able to get involved in the final: "The race was relaxed until 85 kilometres before the finish, when the wind picked up. We had missed it, but Jon Knolle and Felix Groß brought me back to the front," said Rottmann. Groß then had to drop back later on, "but it's thanks to his eye that I was still up front."
"I waited a long time in the sprint, almost too long. But with 120 to 100 metres to go, a gap opened up on the left and I was able to get past," said Rottmann, describing the sprint finish from his perspective. "My first UCI victory, that's awesome! I've been waiting a long time for this this year and to finally achieve it is simply breathtaking."
The REMBE® rad-net riders had already achieved good results in the Romanian stage race in the days leading up to this. Knolle came sixth in the first stage, as did Vincent John in the third stage. The tour continues until tomorrow.
