Jermaine Zemke sprinted to second place after a thrilling final. His team-mate Julian Borresch retained the purple leader’s jersey.
The REMBE® rad-net riders played a key role in shaping the 110-kilometre race, which was held on the gruelling Nordschleife section of the legendary motorsport circuit, and helped ensure that the second half of the race proved to be full of variety. Initially, a strong group led by Borresch had managed to break away from the peloton, but they failed to work well together and were reeled back in. Ole Theiler from Team REMBE® rad-net then broke away with three other riders, including the eventual winner Mil Morang (Lotto-Kern-Haus-Outlet Montabaur). The quartet built up a lead of around two minutes over the peloton.
Ten kilometres from the finish, Zemke launched an attack alongside another rider. The pair actually managed to bridge the gap to the front 700 metres from the finish. In the final sprint, however, Zemke lacked the strength to get the better of Morang. “It’s a shame. If we’d closed the gap a bit earlier, I might have been able to go into the sprint feeling a bit more refreshed. But as it is, we can be satisfied with second place,” commented Zemke. Theiler crossed the finish line in fifth place.
In the general classification, Borresch, finishing eleventh on the day, managed to extend his lead slightly. He now leads on 965 points ahead of Eike Behrens (932/Lotto-Kern-Haus-Outlet Montabaur). In the team classification, REMBE® rad-net made up ground as the day’s winners and, with 190 points, are now just one point behind Lotto-Kern-Haus-Outlet Montabaur.
The next round of the Rad-Bundesliga takes place on 9 August as part of the 71st Großer Silberpilspreis in Bellheim.
