REMBE® rad-net plays a decisive role in the Rund um Köln - Theiler wins the mountain classification
Das Team REMBE® rad-net hat bei der 107. Auflage des deutschen Radklassikers Rund um Köln (UCI 1.1) eine entscheidende Rolle gespielt.
One of the most influential figures in the race was REMBE® rad-net rider Ole Theiler, who was in the breakaway for most of the race and also won the mountain classification.
Theiler was one of the strongest riders, was in the first breakaway group of the day early on and then made it into the second leading group with around 45 kilometres to go. Along the way, he scored plenty of points at the Ferrenberg, Agathaberg and Bensberg mountain classifications and confidently won the mountain classification. And finally, he also made his mark on the finale. After one of the favourites, Nils Politt, attacked for around twelve kilometres, Theiler went with him and extended the attack. The 22-year-old was alone at the front of the race for the next ten kilometres before he was caught by the peloton, which included five WorldTour teams.
"We knew that the race could be difficult at the start. That's why we were at the front right from the start. When I won the first mountain classification, my legs were itching to win the other mountain classifications as well. I felt really good today," said Theiler after the race. "When Nils attacked again in the finale, I realised that there was another opportunity to go for it and I just went for it."
However, Theiler's REMBE® rad-net team-mates were also always on top of the action. Due to the climbs and the high speed, the peloton split up. The first group consisted of around 40 professionals and REMBE® rad-net was one of the most strongly represented teams with four riders. The victory was decided after 181 kilometres in the sprint, in which Jonathan Rottmann and Bruno Keßler took 15th and 16th place.
"The boys delivered a super race. Of course, a big German race like Rund um Köln is not just about race results, but also about presenting our sponsors. In addition to the sporting success and numerous television minutes, we were probably the team that was most present. So we also achieved this goal to the maximum," says REMBE® rad-net Managing Director Ulrich Müller. The race was broadcast in its entirety on the ARD Sportschau live stream.
Team REMBE® rad-net also got off to a good start in the Tour of Japan (UCI 2.2). Jon Knolle took second place in the Sakai Criterium held in the run-up to the race. He then rode to tenth place in the prologue at the start of the eight-day stage race.
