Heidemann loses mountain jersey on final stage of D-Tour – Positive results overall
REMBE® rad-net rider Miguel Heidemann was unable to defend his mountain jersey on the final stage of the Lidl Deutschland Tour.
Nevertheless, the Sauerland team was able to draw a positive conclusion.
The decision for victory in the overall mountain classification was already made after 16 kilometres of the 164-kilometre stage from Halle (Saale) to Magdeburg, because that was where the only mountain classification of the day was on the programme. Heidemann was unable to gain any more points there and had to hand over the jersey to WorldTour professional Enzo Leijnse (Picnic-PostNL). ‘Of course, I'm a little sad, but it was decided by my legs. Our guys positioned me well, but I couldn't keep up with the other two on the steep section, so there was nothing I could do today,’ said Heidemann.
Nevertheless, the REMBE® rad-net team put in a convincing performance in the Tour of Germany. ‘Our goal was to make our mark right from the start. We achieved that. We were represented in the breakaway group of the day on two days with Miguel and once with Jon Knolle, and of course we caused a sensation with the battle for the mountain jersey. We also managed to secure a top ten finish with Jonathan Rottmann,’ summarised Wolfgang Oschwald, sporting director of the REMBE® rad-net team.
Johannes Adamietz finished 22nd overall, making him the third-best German and best Continental rider. He and his REMBE® rad-net teammate Roger Kluge finished the final stage with the first group of a decimated field.
