Bruno Keßler second at the Gran Premio della Liberazione
REMBE® rad-net rider Bruno Keßler finished on the podium at the prestigious U23 one-day race Gran Premio della Liberazione (UCI 1.2U) in Italy.
After 138 kilometres with start and finish in Rome, the 19-year-old finished in second place.
Initially, a five-man lead group was in front. With around 25 kilometres to go, Keßler rode away from the decimated chasing group and tried to catch up with the leading group on his own - the gap was still around two minutes. When Keßler was almost there about five kilometres before the finish, the eventual winner Lorenzo Masciarelli (MBH Bank-Ballan-CSB) broke away and the chasers were no longer able to catch him. In the finale, the group split again and reached the finish 28 seconds behind. Keßler was strongest in the final sprint, winning the group sprint and finishing second.
"I just gave it a go. At first I thought it might be difficult, but then I got into my flow and the gap got smaller and smaller. Of course, that pushed me again," said Keßler after the race. "I'm very happy about second place." Lucas Schädlich, Sporting Director at Team REMBE® rad-net, was also satisfied: "The boys delivered a good team performance and worked really well together, because our goal was the podium. That was definitely a team success."
With Leon Arenz in 14th place, another rider from the REMBE® rad-net team finished in the top 20.
REMBE® rad-net had already competed in two other one-day races in Italy in the past few days, the Giro del Belvedere and the G.P. Palio del Recioto. There, too, Keßler was the team's best rider in 34th and 35th respectively.
