Borresch third overall in Tour of Bulgaria

REMBE® rad-net rider Julian Borresch finished in a very strong third place overall in the 72nd Tour of Bulgaria (UCI 2.2), securing one of the best results of the season for the REMBE® rad-net team.

He also finished a respectable sixth in the final stage.
After the REMBE® rad-net team got off to a good start in the six-day tour with Felix Groß coming second in the 3.5-kilometre prologue and Borresch coming eighth, Borresch achieved good results in the last three stages. On the third stage from Kazanlak to Troyan over 119 kilometres, the 23-year-old was part of a breakaway group and finished in 13th place, improving his overall ranking to third.

He confidently defended this position on the following stage from Troyan to Slivan over 195 kilometres, finishing 17th on the day. On the final stage around Sliven, the overall victory was once again up for grabs. The field had split on the mountain. While Borresch, among others, was in the first group, overall leader Nikiforos Arvanitou (United Shipping) was in the second group. Borresch and Dominik Röber (Benotti-Berthold) then broke away from the leading group, but on the descent towards the finish, the field around Arvanitou caught up again.

This meant that there was no change in the overall standings. Borresch finished third, 25 seconds behind Arvanitou. ‘I am very happy about my first UCI podium,’ said Borresch after the race. "The training over the last few weeks has paid off and I was able to deliver a consistent performance every day. I've finally broken the deadlock and rewarded myself with a top result here. I'm excited to see what I can achieve in the last races of the season."
