He came second in the individual time trial. In total, five REMBE® rad-net riders finished in the top 20.
Heidemann completed the 13.5-kilometre course, which started and finished in Brilon and featured more than 300 metres of elevation gain, in 17 minutes and 23 seconds, finishing just eight seconds behind WorldTour professional Ben Zwiehoff (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies). Johannes Adamietz finished tenth, Jermaine Zemke came 14th, whilst Ole Theiler and Leon Arenz took 19th and 20th places respectively.
“It’s always a shame to miss out on victory, of course. But I’m still happy with second place, as we’re in a good position for the remaining stages,” commented Heidemann, who will start tomorrow wearing the green jersey as the points leader.
Tomorrow’s 123.6-kilometre second stage follows the route of the 2022 German Road Championships. It starts in Brilon and then heads to Siedlinghausen, where riders will complete four laps of a circuit just under 13 kilometres long. The tour comprises four stages in total.
