With Miguel Heidemann and Johannes Adamietz, the team celebrated a one-two victory.
The 122-kilometre stage was held on a 12.2-kilometre circuit around Wenholthausen, which had to be completed ten times. As early as the first lap, a leading group of eight riders broke away, including the eventual stage winner Heidemann and his team-mate Ole Theiler. They built up a lead of around two minutes. With 58 kilometres to go, as the riders tackled the steep climb on the circuit once again, Adamietz attacked alongside another rider from the peloton and caught up with the leading group.
The race was effectively decided when Adamietz and Heidemann attacked together 35 kilometres from the finish – once again on the climb. No one was able to follow the duo; instead, they temporarily extended their lead to almost a minute. In the final sprint, Heidemann prevailed ahead of Adamietz. The chasing group crossed the finish line 28 seconds behind, including Jermaine Zemke, another REMBE® rad-net rider, who finished in fifth place.
“We’d already planned to join the day’s breakaway group. That gave Johannes a relay point. It worked out brilliantly – he attacked and managed to catch up with us. This allowed us to improve Johannes’s position in the general classification, and in the end, of course, it’s absolutely mad that I was able to reward myself with the stage win,” said a delighted Heidemann.
In the general classification, Adamietz has thus moved up to fifth place and, ahead of tomorrow’s final stage, lies 42 seconds behind the leader Paul Fietzke (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies). Heidemann, in eighth place overall and 59 seconds behind, is also on course for a top-ten finish. The final stage covers 132.9 kilometres from Arnsberg to Winterberg and ends with a mountain finish on the Kahlen Asten.
