On the final stage around Heilbronn, the 28-year-old comfortably defended his lead in the special classification. Overall, the REMBE® rad-net team can be very pleased with their performance in Germany’s most important stage race.
Heidemann went on the offensive early on, launching an attack alongside two other riders, who were then joined by three more. Heidemann failed to score any points at the first mountain classification, but was in the lead at the second, after 102 kilometres, and picked up another point at the third. This meant that even before the fourth and final mountain classification, it was clear he would win the mountains’ jersey.
“It wasn’t easy to win the mountains jersey – mentally too, because I lost it on the final stage last year. So that was still on my mind today, even though I knew I had a small lead. But now I’m really, really grateful that I’ve managed it,” said a delighted Heidemann, who has thus secured one of the greatest successes in the team’s history. “I’ve really enjoyed the week. Swapping jerseys with my team-mate Ole Theiler was great too, and bringing it home now is even better.”

In the general classification, Johannes Adamietz was the best REMBE® rad-net rider in 28th place. He was also the best German rider on a Continental team.
