REMBE® rad-net women make their WorldTour debut – men in action twice in Switzerland
Saturday marks a special milestone for the REMBE® rad-net women’s team: the team, which was only founded this year, has received an invitation to the Copenhagen Sprint (UCI 1.WWT), a one-day race in Denmark, and will thus be competing in its first WorldTour-level race.
Meanwhile, the men are competing in Switzerland in the ‘Müller – Die lila Logistik Rad-Bundesliga’ and the GP Gippingen (UCI 1.1).
The second edition of the Copenhagen Sprint covers 156 kilometres from Roskilde to Copenhagen over flat terrain. “It’s going to be a real showdown against the big WorldTour teams. They’ve all brought their sprinters and I think it will come down to a bunch sprint,” says Fabian Peplau, sporting director at REMBE® rad-net women. The REMBE® rad-net riders, among whom Maira Jasch will be making her international debut, will face last year’s winner and superstar Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), former world champions Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) and Amalie Dideriksen (Denmark), and Charlotte Kool (Fenix-Premier Tech).
“It would be important for us to have someone in the day’s leading group to actively shape the race and make our presence felt. We’re counting on Hannah Kunz for the final. We’ll see what’s possible then,” Peplau continued.
As part of the Gippingen Cycling Days, the fifth round of the Men’s Cycling Bundesliga takes place on Saturday. REMBE® rad-net rider Julian Borresch currently sits second in the overall standings and aims to make further ground in the 151.5-kilometre race, which is held on a 10.1-kilometre circuit featuring a two-kilometre climb. Last year, he finished eighth in the selective race, whilst his team-mate Johannes Adamietz took the win. The REMBE® rad-net riders are among the favourites again this year.
The following day, Team REMBE® rad-net will face riders from six WorldTour and five ProTeams at the GP Gippingen. The entry list includes Olympic champion Richard Carapaz, former world champion Julian Alaphilippe, Thibau Nys and Alberto Bettiol, as well as top German stars such as Jonas Rutsch and Marco Brenner. Some of the teams and riders are passing through on their way to the Tour de Suisse, which they intend to use to prepare for the Tour de France. “It is an honour for our riders to compete against such great professionals,” says Lucas Liß, sporting director at REMBE® rad-net. “Nevertheless, we do not intend to hide away and aim to put on the best possible show.”
