Petry wins the Bundesliga stage in Trier – Heidemann takes the mountains jersey at the Vuelta a Asturias

The REMBE® rad-net team has celebrated its second consecutive victory in the “Müller – Die lila Logistik Rad-Bundesliga”.

Paul-Felix Petry won the German Cycling League race in Trier.
Following Pepe Albrecht’s victory in Schweigen the previous day, Paul-Felix Petry triumphed in the stage race in Trier. Miguel Heidemann also secured the mountains jersey at the Vuelta a Asturias (UCI 2.1) in Spain.
Petry had broken away from the peloton in Trier after around 30 kilometres, along with two other riders; a fourth rider joined them roughly halfway through the race. The quartet steadily extended their lead to over two and a half minutes and, after 125 kilometres – covered on a circuit just under eight kilometres long – fought it out amongst themselves for the win. On the final climb, Fausto Penna (Lotto-Kern-Haus-Outlet Montabaur) launched an attack, but Petry stayed with him and won the sprint just ahead of his breakaway companion. REMBE® rad-net is now also on course for a podium finish in the general classification. Finishing fifth on the day, Julian Borresch moved up to third place in the overall standings.

“This is my first major success in the elite category. The victory means a great deal to me, as it has also allowed me to demonstrate my long-term development,” said Albrecht happily yesterday after the race. Petry, who, like Albrecht, is just 19 years old, echoed this sentiment: “I’m naturally delighted with the victory. I would definitely say that this is my first major success in the elite category. My form has steadily improved since the start of the season and there have been repeated signs that things are heading in the right direction. It feels good that I’ve now been able to translate my performance into a result like this.”

The Vuelta Asturias also ended successfully for REMBE® rad-net. On the final stage, which covered 152 kilometres from Lugones to Oviedo, Heidemann managed to defend his mountains jersey. Furthermore, Jermaine Zemke was once again able to keep up with the strongest riders over the mountains and sprinted to a creditable tenth place. In the general classification, Johannes Adamietz finished 15th in the highly competitive stage race, which was won by former Giro and Vuelta overall winner Nairo Quintana (Movistar).

“We’re more than satisfied with that. The lads held their own against the big WorldTour and ProTeams and impressively demonstrated their ability. We came here with the aim of achieving a top result on a stage and reaching the top 15 in the general classification. Miguel finished second on one stage and won the mountains’ jersey, whilst Jermaine came third on another. On top of that, despite his crash on the first stage, Johannes finished the tour in 15th place, and Jermaine came 20th.”
