Jasch wins silver at the U23 German Championships – Races in Romania and Austria

At the German U23 Championships, Maira Jasch of Team REMBE® rad-net women won the silver medal, securing her first medal in cycling.

In the men’s U23 category, REMBE® rad-net rider Paul-Felix Petry finished sixth.
The title races were held as a four-nation championship alongside hosts Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. For the women, the race took place around Weiswampach over 95 kilometres. The peloton stayed together for the entire race. Although there were the odd bursts of pace here and there, nobody managed to break away. After 95 kilometres, around 30 riders were still sprinting for victory. The only rider faster than Jasch was surprise winner Laura Kronburger (Triclub Lindenberg). “I’m very happy with second place, although it’s obviously a shame to miss out on victory by such a narrow margin,” said Jasch after the race.

In the men’s U23 race, which covered 132 kilometres around Parc Honsingen, the pace was very high from the start, meaning the peloton was quickly whittled down considerably. After around 30 kilometres, a seven-rider leading group, including eventual winner Paul Fietzke (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies), was at the front. Behind them was a four-man chasing group featuring the two REMBE® rad-net riders, Petry and defending champion Mauro Brenner. The chasers were unable to bridge the gap to the front, but Petry secured sixth place in the German Championships from within the group. Team-mate Jermaine Zemke finished ninth; Brenner abandoned the race after falling behind. “The others were simply better today,” commented Petry.

Alongside the U23 Championships, the REMBE® rad-net team is competing in the Sibiu Tour (UCI 2.1) in Romania. In this highly competitive stage race, featuring WorldTour teams such as UAE-Emirates-XRG and Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, REMBE® rad-net rider Benjamin Boos finished sixth twice on the opening day: the first half-stage was decided in a sprint, whilst the second half-stage of the day was a 3.2-kilometre individual time trial.

From Wednesday, Team REMBE® rad-net will also be competing in the Tour of Austria (UCI 2.1), where they will face equally strong competition from teams such as UAE-Emirates-XRG, Netcompany-Ineos, Alpecin-Premier Tech, Jayco-AlUla, EF Education-EasyPost and Lidl-Trek. The stage race runs over a total of five days, from Graz to Vienna. The queen stage concludes with a mountain finish on the Großglockner.
