Iana Baltes won two gold medals at the Romanian Championships – in the U23 individual time trial and in the elite road race.
For a long time, the 122-kilometre race around Gera proceeded without any major highlights. Although there were the odd breakaway, everything seemed to be heading for a sprint finish. However, 22 kilometres from the finish, Lisa Klein provided the decisive turning point: she attacked and, a few kilometres later, was joined by four other riders. The group battled it out amongst themselves for the win, with Dutch rider Marit Raaijmakers (Human Powered Health) proving the fastest. With Laura Süßemilch and Aileen Schweikart finishing in 15th and 19th places respectively, two further REMBE® rad-net riders secured top-20 placings.
“After the race, there are of course always a few things you realise you could have done better. Overall, though, it’s a great result and we’ve achieved our set goal of securing a top-ten finish,” said Sebastian Ventker, sporting director of the REMBE® rad-net women’s team. “I was particularly pleased that we were one of the few teams still fully represented at the front for a very long time. It was a bit of a shame, however, that Lisa couldn’t keep up on the climb. Nevertheless, she still managed to secure fifth place, well ahead of the chasing pack.”

First, she was the fastest in the 20-kilometre individual time trial in the U23 category, winning by a margin of over a minute. The 19-year-old also triumphed in the elite road race, finishing 103 kilometres ahead of the field with a clear lead.
