Julian Borresch was nominated for the European Championships after his victory and was hoping for a place at the World Championships
Julian Borresch won the cycling championship in Sebnitz and defended second place in the overall team classification with his REMBE Pro Cycling™ Team Sauerland.
In the individual ranking Borresch managed to climb back to 4th place and is now even leader in the mountain ranking. Together with Julian Dresser, who later came second, national rider Borresch attacked right at the start of the almost 145 kilometer long classic in eastern Germany. Thanks to his dominant riding style, Borresch kept all pursuers at a distance and confirmed his candidacy for next Friday's European Championship in the Belgian province of Limburg. The young man from Sauerland will also be able to confirm his international class in the U23 road race.
"From the European Championships to the Sauerland up to the World Cup"
The European Championship is the start of a tiring weekend in the Sauerland: “It is still questionable whether Julian Borresch will also lead the Wenholthausen Mountain Prize on Saturday after the European Championship race on Friday and before the Sauerland tour on Sunday. He wants to decide this in the short term. The Sauerland Tour and especially the European Championships can be an important recommendation for the World Championships in Zurich a week later", explains team coach Wolfgang Oschwald.
Tour of Great Britain with first placings in the superstar group
While part of the Sauerlanders struggled for victory in the Bundesliga, the other half of the REMBE Pro Cycling™ Team Sauerland held their own among the World Tour stars at the Tour of Britain. This year's Tour of Britain took riders from Scotland to the south of England over five days. Greg Henderson was particularly pleased with the performance of his charges. “The stage journey was characterized by very difficult stages in the Scottish hills, wind and weather. Especially at the beginning, superstars such as Olympic winners Remko Evenepol and Thomas Pidkock and former world champion Julian Alaphillipe tested their form before the next World Championships. Despite this pressure, Paul Wright achieved respectable success, ranking 19th overall on the world-class course. Julian Rottmann also shone with strong performances towards the end and “scored” a 15th place in the last section,” summed up New Zealander Henderson. “If Paul Wright hadn't had a bad crash on the third stage and hadn't lost time, he would have finished 8th in the general classification,” said the veteran, a little saddened by the missed opportunity. Like the Tour of Germany, the Tour of Britain was part of the professional category of the international association. In addition to numerous World Tour teams, only a few teams like REMBE Pro Cycling™Team Sauerland can start here. The invitation was further recognition for the local team.
